Sponsorship
SPONSORING BMX RIDERS & EVENTS
We’ve been sponsoring BMX riders and events for over 25 years. We’ve helped young talented riders move through the ranks and make fully fledged professional careers. With increasing numbers of riders contacting us direct we decided to share our thoughts on the decision making process we use when looking at sponsoring potential riders and events.
BMX looks great on a TV but there's nothing quite like watching it in the flesh. We believe in supporting freestyle BMX at a grassroots & professional level and have been putting on BMX events in the UK for almost 3 decades. Our first shop was called ‘Backyard’ so it made sense to create an event called ‘The Backyard Jam’. Every year the event grew in popularity throughout the 90's and attracted all the top Pro's from around the world including; Mat Hoffman, Dave Mirra, Dennis McCoy, Jamie Bestwick and Fuzzy Hall to name but a few. More recently we've helped nurture some of the UK's most talented riders who have gone on to lead highly successful, professional full time careers and ride at the highest level within BMX competitions like the X-Games & Simple Session.
WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO GET SPONSORED?
The old saying is true, ‘give and you shall receive’. We like to hear about riders that give back to a local scene, riders that put on contests, riders that have a positive impact on their scene and help nurture younger riders. Some riders feel like they have a reached a certain level of riding and that the next phase of their career is to get sponsored, some even feel like they are entitled to it. But just because you can do a 360 backflip whip or an icepick to truckdriver doesn't mean you're going to get hooked up by anyone. If you deserve to be sponsored someone in the industry will notice, that's usually how it works. However, there are ways to increase your chances, enter comps, make your own edits, travel and most importantly give back to BMX.
BMX VIDEOS
Can I send you my video?
In short, yes you can but please include your name, email address and current residential location. We are always looking for riders with a unique attitude and not the copied style or tricks from their favourite pro. We appreciate that you would like to us your video as this will give us a good idea of your riding ability. However, even if you send us the most ground breaking video with the latest tricks at some unseen location we will still want to know what you are like as a person and before we would look at sponsoring you. It’s as much about having a good attitude toward BMX and other riders as well as having the skills on a bike.
BMX CONTESTS
Riding a contest is a great way to get noticed and we have found many riders through this method. Riders that are willing to ride a competition or jam are showing that they are willing to put themselves out there and also shows that they can normally handle pressure which is also a good thing. We always like the see unique line or tricks at a contest so if you are riding contests regularly then keep up the good work and the right people will take notice.
BMX SHOPS
The UK has a strong network of independent bicycle shops who we have been supplying direct for years. This is our preferred method of finding new talent as we can talk to the shop owner and get a real understanding of the riders personality and attitude towards BMX. We will always want to see video footage of rider that is being recommended so before someone from your local shop contacts us please have a video ready to email over.
SPONSORING BMX EVENTS & ADVERTISING
We love to see BMX events that are designed to help support & grow local scenes and get people stoked on BMX. Whether it’s a Shop, Skatepark, Trails or Plaza jam we are always happy to help support legitimate BMX events in the UK. We always ask for 2 - 4 weeks notice before any event so we can advertise your event and get product sent out to you etc. If you would us to advertise on your website please contact us with all your company details and statistics etc and if we are interested we will get in contact.
HAVE FUN
At the end of the day sponsorship is not the be all and end all of BMX. Ironically we normally sponsor those riders who are having the most fun, have an active role in their local scene and have a good attitude towards other riders. Those riders with a big smile on their face are normally the stand out riders in a scene and people will naturally gravitate towards them and so will sponsors. If you still didn't find the answer to your question, we contact us via email through contact us page.
